On Saturday, December 6, an international scientific conference took place, with participants from the “Studiuj i badaj po polsku” (Study in Polish) program, as well as guests from the University of Warsaw (UW), Jagiellonian University, and Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. The participants were welcomed by Prof. Dr. Hab. Roman Holod, Dean of the Faculty of Philology at PNU, and Prof. Dr. Hab. Iwona Kurz, Dean of the Faculty of Polish Studies at the University of Warsaw.
Next, the coordinators of the program, Samantha Busilo (PNU) and Dr. Beata Jędryka (UW), presented the “Learn and Research in Polish” project, carried out in partnership between the two universities over the past year under a grant from the National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA). The papers presented in two sections addressed issues of linguistics, translation studies, and especially academic language competence, necessary for teaching and conducting scientific research.
In the era of university internationalization and the period of intensive Ukrainian-Polish scientific cooperation, the discussed topics are especially relevant. Faculty members from the Department of Slavic Languages and the Department of World Literature (Assoc. Prof. Olga Lazarovych, Assoc. Prof. Olena Pelekhata, Assoc. Prof. Iryna Spatar, Samantha Busilo) also presented papers at the conference. It is worth noting that students and young researchers also had the opportunity to present their papers. In the student section, reports were presented by students of the Precarpathian University, Valeria Sherstiuk and Lyudmila Rusanova. The papers were published in a special issue of the journal of the Polish Language Culture Society, “Poradnik Językowy” (SCOPUS), edited by Prof. Stanisław Dubiś (University of Warsaw) (see https://journals.polon.uw.edu.pl/index.php/pj/index).
Within the framework of the “Learn and Research in Polish” program, a series of open lectures on linguistics, a scientific conference, the publication of a special issue of the scientific journal “Poradnik Językowy” by the University of Warsaw, as well as 150 hours of language workshops on editing thesis papers, scientific articles, and conducting research projects were organized. Participants in the program included students and young researchers from 12 Ukrainian and Polish universities (50 people), including Precarpathian University, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, V. Karazin Kharkiv National University, and Kamianets-Podilskyi Ivan Ohienko National University.
This is already the third joint project implemented in collaboration with the University of Warsaw, which has united the philological community of Ukraine and Poland. The project, highly evaluated by the National Agency for Academic Exchange, won the competition and was recognized by experts as necessary and important. We thank NAWA for their trust and our partners for fruitful cooperation.
